Healthy and hygienic food and nutrition are the basic need
of every citizen – no matter whether he/she is living below poverty line or
belongs to elite class. For needy people, who are far from healthy diet and
nutrition, focusing on Food and nutrition security in
India is important that is based on various things. Various
recognized societies, NGOs and organizations are working in this domain and
providing with the right solutions.
Some renowned and non-profit organizations and groups are
promoting and strengthen a medically rational, culturally acceptable and
economically sustainable Health Care System in the country; while they ensure
social justice, equity and human rights in the provision and distribution of
health services to all along with emphasis on the less privileged millions.
In addition to this, they are also developing sustainable
and innovative strategies to ensure health and overall community development in
remote and vulnerable areas through various grass-root level initiatives.
For food and nutrition security in India,
the most vital program to ensure everyone will get healthy diet and no wastage
of food will take place. Various institutions are coming together or working in
collaboration with top organizations and NGOs to help needy people fulfill
their food and nutrition requirements.
VHAI Develops a Plan
for Food and Nutrition Security in India
Voluntary Health Association of India or VHAI has been
working on Food and Nutrition security in India helping people to get their
food and nutrition. Being a non-profit and registered society formed in the
year of 1970, VHAI is a federation of 27 State Voluntary Health Associations –
linking together more than 4500 health and development institutions across the
country.
It is one of the largest health and development networks in
the world – advocating people centered policies for dynamic health planning and
programme management in India. Their main motive is to build up a strong health
movement in the Country for a cost-effective, preventive, promotive and
rehabilitative health care system. They work towards a responsive public health
sector; while they are responsible for private sector with accountability and
quality service. The reputed and registered society has been promoting health
issue of human rights and development.
VHAI has been working on the right health and nutrition
security program in India – a project realizing the Right of Adequate Food and
Nutrition – implemented in collaboration with CEA or Civic Engagement Alliance.
CEA is a strategic partnership program supported by the Netherlands Ministry of
Foreign Affairs or MOFA.
Objective of the program is to enhance capacity of NGOs and
women’s Federations to address the issues of malnutrition and contributing
towards achieving the SDG 2 or Zero Hunger, SDG 5 or Gender equality and SDG 10
or reducing inequality. It is a program organized to liaison with stakeholder
departments for effective implementation of nutrition related schemes and a
multi-sectoral approach to address the issue of malnutrition.
